About Us

About the owners:

Pat and Mackenzie Jones hold the esteemed title of Fleet Feet Sports first and only mother-daughter team.  Pat (the "mom") and Mackenzie (the "daughter") both frequented Fleet Feet stores in their respective home towns to buy shoes, apparel & accessories, but more importantly to meet with friends and/or total strangers to train for various events, or to just go out for "fun runs".  Mackenzie had the bright idea to open a Fleet Feet Sports in beautiful Sarasota, and the rest is history.

Mackenzie Jones:

MACKENZIE was born in Bucyrus, Ohio--a little town about an hour south of Sandusky, Ohio--and moved to Cincinnati when she was in middle school.  A proud graduate of the Ohio State University with a degree in economics, Mackenzie moved to Madison, Wisconsin to open that city's first Caribou Coffee store.  Mackenzie also worked at an outdoor outfitter store (which fed her kayaking, hiking and biking habit).  A veteran of 6 marathons, a 50k ultra and multiple half-marathons, Mackenzie's short term goals are qualifying for Boston and completing her first  half Ironman.  Mackenzie has a newborn daughter, Finnley Grace, born Feb. 25.

Pat Jones:

PAT was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio.  She and husband Barry purchased a home in Sarasota six years ago, with the intention of retiring here in a few years.  Strike that plan!  Pat won't be retiring any time soon.  She is the new director of the Galloway marathon training program, and has completed seven marathons, many half marathons, and several 5 and 10k's (many with Mackenzie!).  Pat is a registered nurse, and received her MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati.

Bree Maier:

BREE is well-known in the community as a gifted athlete and owner of the Sarasota Surge running club.  Born in San Francisco and raised in Oregon, Bree moved to Sarasota with husband Chris about three years ago.  A registered nurse, Bree now spends her time training, coaching, and teaching at a local Montessori school. She is the founder and owner of the Sarasota Surge developmental running team.

Kim moved to Bradenton in 2009, after spending years in the Baltimore area as a police captain.  She started running 3 years ago as a means to lose weight, and hooked up with the folks at Fleet Feet Baltimore where she found a second family with all the runners. Kim has completed the Baltimore Half Marathon, Ocean City Maryland Half Marathon, Virginia Beach Half Marathon, 2008 Marine Corps Marathon, and countless 5k races. Currently attempting to lose the retirement fat that has "...found its way back on my body", Kim is planning to run 2010 miles in the year 2010 (follow her progress on the monthly Fleet Feet e-newsletter). She is also preparing for the Athens Greece Marathon in October 2010. Hobbies include boating, camping, hiking, bowling and travel.
